Russian Muslims condemn the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh Russian Muslims have condemned the killing of the Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

On Wednesday, 11 May, a well-known Palestinian journalist and Al-Jazeera correspondent in Palestine, Shireen Abu Akleh, was shot whil performing her professional duties in the Jenin Palestinian refugee camp during an Israeli army operation.

Following this tragic event, a solidarity rally was held on the premises of the Embassy of Palestine in the Russian Federation. At the invitation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Palestine to the Russian Federation, Mr Abdel-Hafiz Nofal, the event was attended by Rushan Abbyasov, first deputy chairman of the Russia Muftis Council, deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation.

He expressed his condolences and solidarity with the Palestinian people on behalf of Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of the Russia Muftis Council, and himself.

He also condemned those responsible for the journalist's death, saying that this cowardly murder represented an irreparable loss for the whole Palestinian people, who deeply loved Shireen Abu Akleh for her courage and professional attitude.

Rushan Abbyasov also expressed concern about the growing tension in this conflict.

"The recent disturbing news coming from Jerusalem show that Israel's brutal actions bring suffering not only to Muslims, but also to Christians living in this region. The killing of innocent Shirin Abu Akla, who was a Christian, proves this," said Rushan Abbyasov.
