Rushan Abbyasov speaks at international conference in Abu-Dhabi On May 8 and 9, 2022, the conference "Islamic Unity: Concept, Opportunities and Challenges" was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The Russian ummah was represented at the conference by Damir Mukhetdinov, first deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation.  

A delegation of the Russia Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, including the first deputy chairman of the Russia Muftis Council Rushan Abbasov, took part in this international event.

Participants from more than 150 countries, including representatives of religious, political and academic organizations,came together to discuss the subject of Islamic unity.

On the first day welcoming speeches were delivered by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, under whose patronage this conference is being held, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayya, Head of the UAE Fatwa Council, Dr Ali Erbaş, Head of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Minister of Awqaf of the Arab Republic of Egypt Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, head of the World Council of Muslim Communities Dr. al-Rashid al-Nuaimi and other prominent Muslim leaders.

In his presentation entitled "Cooperation for the Unity of Society" Rushan Abbyasov noted that Islam is striving for optimal forms of existence in the modern world. The Muslims' social activity and their involvement in the humanitarian aspects of Islam should become a good basis for uniting the Ummah and for the interfaith dialogue.

The first deputy chairman of the Russia Muftis Council noted that Russia was a unique example of good-neighbourliness where no conflicts on the religious grounds have ever taken place. He also noted that the unity is tested in difficult times and mentioned the pandemic period, when Muslims helped others, delivered food and medicines to those in need, regardless of their nationality and religion, and supported the medical community.

Rushan Abbyasov also said that Russian Muslims willingly shared their experience with their fellow believers around the world as they received numerous delegations and introduced them to Russian Muslim organizations, held religious, cultural and educational events, such as international conferences, forums and exhibitions.

He also spoke about the role of the mosque in the life of Muslims. He noted that the mosque was not only a place of worship, but also a multifunctional centre of spiritual, educational, social and cultural life of the Ummah.

Rushan Abbyasov emphasized that the Russian Muslims were making every effort to provide religious education to their fellow believers and contribute to a constructive dialogue between public institutions.
