Spiritual development for the benefit of Russian and Egyptian Muslims Rushan Abbyasov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russia Muftis Council, Deputy Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation for International Affairs, met with Muhammad Mokhtar Gomaa, Minister of Awqaf and Chairman of the Supreme Islamic Council of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the conference "Civic Identity and its Role in Preserving Public Security", which is currently taking place in Cairo.

Rushan Abbyasov thanked the Minister for the invitation to the conference and conveyed the invitation to participate in the events marking the 1,100th anniversary of official adoption of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria, on behalf of Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

During the meeting the parties discussed cooperation in educational, religious, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Rushan Ablyasov stressed that the ongoing Year of Humanitarian Cooperation between Russia and Egypt provided a strong foundation for enhancing the ties between the peoples of the two countries. He said culture was an effective tool for learning from each other and suggested conducting an international exhibition on the Russian Islamic traditions in Egypt. Muhammad Gomaa fully supported this idea, saying he had visited the exhibition in Jeddah in November 2021 and was highly impressed with it.

The parties also discussed their participation in the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the possibility of using this platform for the events aimed at bringing the peoples of Russia and Egypt together in terms of culture and religion.

Rushan Abbyasov thanked Mr. Minister for regularly inviting Russian Muslims to participate in annual events held by the Ministry of Awqaf, such as the Quran recitation competition, international conferences and advanced training courses for imams.

The parties agred on the importance of developing professional dialogue and sharing experience and discussed professional training courses at the Higher Islamic Academy operating under the Ministry.

At the end of the meeting Rushan Abbyasov and Muhammad Gomaa thanked each other for the productive and informative dialogue, and expressed confidence that the agreements reached would be implemented and would benefit the people of both countries.
