According to the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, Arab countries expressed their interest in using Russian halal COVID vaccines.
The Sputnik V and Epivaccorona vaccines have received halal certificates.

Russia is currently conducting negotiations with some Arab countries regarding the use of Russian coronavirus vaccines. It became possible because the vaccines are now considered to be halal, said the first deputy chairman of the RBMRF Rushan Abbyasov.

"We are currently discussing the possibility of using the Russian vaccines against COVID-19 with the governments of different Muslims countries. The fatwa of our Ulema Council as to halalness of these vaccines, in particular Sputnik V, gave impetus to further discussion," said Rushan Abbyasov during the "Healthcare in the context of COVID-19" session of the international economic summit "Russia-Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021".

This fatwa provided Muslims in Russia and abroad with an additional argument in favour of vaccination. According to Abbyasov, this opinion is seconded by the Food and Drug Administration of Indonesia.

This March the Ulema Council of the Russian Religious Board recognized the use of Sputnik V vaccine as Islamically permissible, and the International Centre for Halal Standardization and Certification granted this vaccine a halal certificate. A similar halal certificate was issued for the Epivaccorona vaccine earlier in June.

The 12th International Economic Summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" is taking place in Kazan on July 28-30, 2021. The summit is attended by representatives of 48 countries and 25 regions of Russia. The summit aims to develop cooperation and maintain dialogue between Russia and OIC member countries in the economic, political and cultural spheres.
