Today the official meeting between the delegation of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, took place in Cairo.

The event was attended by the minister counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Egypt Yuri Matveyev, deputy chairman of the RBMRF and chairman of the Moscow RBM Ildar Alyautdinov, deputy chairman of the RBMRF and chairman of the Ulema Council Shamil Alyautdinov and academic secretary of the Ulema Council Ilyas Ganiyev.

The parties discussed cooperation issues and stressed the importance of maintaining contacts between Russian and Egyptian Muslims. Georgy Borisenko expressed his willingness to support projects carried out by the RBMRF in conjunction with Egyptian religious organizations.

The mufti of Moscow conveyed the greetings from Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin and noted that many Russian citizens studied in Egypt, therefore it was important for the students to be able to apply the acquired knowledge in the context of the Russian reality. He added that the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation conducts extensive academic, cultural and educational activities, and the Ulema Council prepares and publishes fatwas, as well as academic journals, books and theological literature on a regular basis.

The participants also discussed the issues related to providing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

The participants emphasized the importance of holding such events during the current Year of Humanitarian Cooperation between Russia and Egypt, since this interaction between the countries contributes to strengthening the true values of Islam and helps to fight extremism and terrorism.

At the end of the meeting the mufti of Moscow Ildar Alyautdinov expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' support for the international activities of the RBMRF.
