Muslim leaders of China and Russia meet in Kazakhstan During the 4th International Theological Conference “The Spiritual Silk Road. Islam and Youth: Modernity challenges ”, which was held on April 11-12, 2019 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin met the Chairman of the Islamic Association of China, Sheikh Hassan Fa Min.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin thanked the high Chinese delegation for participating in the Spiritual Silk Road project. He noted that  the initiative to hold such a conference was supported by the Chinese authorities. This event took place for the first time in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China with the personal participation of the Chairman of the Government of the XUAR, Shohrat Zakir, and the Chairman of the State Authority for Religious Affairs of China, Van Dzoan.

The parties stressed the importance of the conference’s current theme, noting that the youth needed mentorship, moderation and prudence the most. The Chinese and Russian representatives agreed that the ideas of terrorism, extremism and separatism were unacceptable, destructive and prevented peaceful coexistence of peoples.

“Having dedicated the conference to the issues faced by the youth, we discussed the possible ways aimed at improving the work of Muslim religious departments among the youth, exchanged practical experience, agreed on cooperation for the benefit of our countries” said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin emphasized that the Muslims of China and Russia were friends and like-minded people, and the religious leaders of the two countries were responsible for the guidance of the young generation of Muslims.

During the conversation, the parties discussed cooperation issues, as well as the ways to strengthen the interaction of the Muslim communities of both countries.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin also noted that developing cooperation and implementing joint projects became possible due to the intention of the leaders of Muslim organizations to ensure transparency and to protect Muslims from oppression, violation of their rights and discrimination.

“The Muslims of Russia and China have been working together for more than a dozen years. We have learned a lot about each other, we have repeatedly visited each other’s countries. Unfortunately, some Western media disclosed information about certain mass violations of the rights of Muslims in China. I request you, as the leader of Chinese Muslims, a brother in Islam and a faithful friend, to make sure that there are no such incidents. Some religious figures and ordinary Muslims in Russia are very concerned about the situation in China because of the information spread by the media, ”said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed that the Chinese Muslim delegation will visit Moscow to participate in the ceremonial events of the Russia Muftis Council and the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation this September.
