RMC representatives attended Qur'an reciting contest in Derbent The representatives of the Russian Muftis Council took part in the All-Russian Sirajjudin Efendi Qur’an reciting contest -  "The legacy of great sheikhs of Southern Dagestan", which was held in the city of Derbent at the Sheikh Abdul-Afandi Islamic University.

Artur Gubaydullin, an expert of the RMC International Department attended this event. In his speech he conveyed the greetings on behalf of the Chairman of the Russian Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin.

The RMC representative thanked the organizers of the contest for the invitation, warm welcome and well-thought organization of the competition. He noted that the RMC and RBMRF paid great attention to the development of the Quranic and Islamic sciences. The All-Russian Qur’an reciting contest takes place every month. The winner of the contest represents Russia at the International Qur’an Reciting Competition in Moscow.

The Russia Muftis Council was represented at the competition by a graduate of the Moscow Islamic College, hafiz Rakhimov Burkhoniddin. About 80 hafiz members from all over Russia, including the Chechen Republic and Dagestan, Irkutsk, Perm, Tula, Stavropol, Ryazan and Moscow took part in the event.

The honorary guests of the contest included Ilkham Bibarsov (chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Perm region), Enrik Muslimov (mayor of Derbent), Vagap Kazibekov (member of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Dagestan), Sheikh Isamedin Efendi (Imam of the historical Cathedral Mosque of Derbent).

The competition consisted of 3 parts: children below 12 years old competed in the "Juz Amma" nomination; young men under 18 competed in the second nomination called "10 juzes"; and participants up to 30 years old competed in the third nomination called "Full knowledge of the Qur’an".

The jury members included Muhammad Habib Budunov (head of the tahfiz department under the Muftiyat of Dagestan), Muhammad Akram (Imam of the city of Medina), Ibrahim Sabirov, (authorized representative of the World Organization for the Qur’an hafizs in the Russian Federation), Saadulla Khidirbekov (Qur’an teacher in the Gurbuki village).

The representative of the Moscow Islamic College Rakhimov Burkhoniddin won the second prize in the contest.
