RMC representatives participate in conference in Indonesia The representatives of the Russia Muftis Council and the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation: member of the Presidium of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, Imam-Mukhtasib of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Ryazan Region Rashid Bultacheev, and deputy chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Ivanovo Region Imam-khatib Halit Yakupov took part in the conference "Consultation of the world theologists on the issue of moderate Islam", which was held in Indonesia, in the city of Bogor, on May 1-3, 2018.

The official opening of the Conference took place in the presidential palace of Bogor with the participation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, the supreme sheikh of the Al-Azhar University Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyib, the ambassadors of Arab and Muslim countries and other guests.

The opening ceremony began with the recitation of Qur'anic verses. Then the word was given to the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on Interfaith Dialogue and Cooperation, Deen Shamsuddin, who spoke about the importance of moderation in Islam and its implementation in Indonesia.

The Supreme Sheikh of the University of Al-Azhar Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad Al-Tayyib confirmed the importance of moderation in Islam and cited several meanings of the word "wasatiyya" (moderation), mentioning the comments of Herodotus and Muslim scholars. He also said that moderation was a manifestation of the mercy of Allah towards His creatures, in accordance with the words of Allah: "Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship" (Qur'an 2: 185) . He also added that the educational program of Al-Azhar represents moderation in Islam.

The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, spoke about his country, where representatives of six major religions and more than a hundred different nationalities coexisted peacefully. He expressed the conviction that Islam is a religion of mercy for the worlds, a blessing for the universe, and Muslims should become role models in promoting peace and unity.

43 representatives from 36 countries took part in the Conference, including: Russia, Uzbekistan, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, USA, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Japan, Australia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc., as well as about a hundred scholars from Indonesia.

The agenda of the Conference consisted of seven sections: moderation in Islam and its definition, moderation in Islam throughout the history of Islamic civilization, global challenges and solutions, Indonesia's experience in the implementation of moderate Islam.

The conference in Indonesia was conducted in order to strengthen friendship ties, to conduct discussions, to share information, opinions and experience in the implamantation of moderate Islam; and also to convey true Islamic values to the world civilization.
