Russian reciters participate in international Qur'an reciting competitions Participation of young reciters and hafizs in international Qur’an reciting competitions is one of dimensions of the Russia Muftis Council’s activity. Every year dozens of reciters from different regions of Russia get a unique opportunity to represent Russian Muslims in Arab countries, Сentral Asia and Southeast Asia. In 2017 Russian reciters took part in 16 foreign competitions.
The International Qur'an reciting competition has recently finished in Jakarta, Indonesia. This competition is held with the support of the charity organization of the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, as well as the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Jakarta. Over 120 young Qur'an reciters took part in this contest. Russia was represented by students of the Hafiz Centre in Kazan. The young people competed in the categories for those who have memorized 10, 15 and 20 juzs of the Holy Scripture.

Another country in Southeast Asia where a Qur'an reciting competition has recently took place is Malaysia. Two hafizs from Russia, Yusuf Abidov and Elena Dmitrienko, were sent to participate in this contest. Over 90 participants from 46 countries demonstrated their skilful recitation.

It should be noted that over the last years several women from Russia, mostly students and graduates of the Hafiz Centre in Saratov. They participated in the Qur’an reciting competition in Jordan, Sudan and UAE. Women studying the Holy Qur’an are much fewer than men in Russia, this is why their participation in international contests is twice as valuable.

The geography of contest where Russian reciter take part is constantly expanding. However, there are countries with which there have been a close cooperation in this area for many years. One of this countries is Tunisia where the Russian Qur’an memorization school was represented by Kurban Magomedov.

For the first time during the last 5 years a Russian hafiz, Magomed Ashatov, took part in the Qur’’an reciting competition in Kyrgyzstan. This was the first international contest for the Dagestani hafiz.

The Russia Muftis Council sends not only experienced reciters, but also those new ones for performing in front of a strict jury including experts in Qur’anic studies from different Arab countries. Currently two Qur’an reciters from Dagestan are taking part in a competition in Turkey. May Allah give them success.
