In Rabi' al-Awwal, the Moscow Cathedral Mosque Displays a Sacred Relic of Islam – a Hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him) In honor of the arrival of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal, in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born, the Moscow Cathedral Mosque is exhibiting one of the greatest Islamic relics—a hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

In Islam, there is the concept of tabarruk—the seeking of Divine grace. The companions of the Prophet saw Divine grace in everything connected with the person of the Messenger of Allah. Many collections of hadith contain numerous narrations about how people expressed their reverent and awe-filled attitude toward their great contemporary, his teachings, and everything associated with his person. Authentic narrations state that the companions—those who were near him—saw in all of this protection from illnesses, ailments, and life's hardships.

And this grace, which existed during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of the Almighty be upon him), did not end after 14 centuries: many scholars, based on Quranic texts, say that this grace is preserved to this day. Therefore, for us, having the opportunity to see the hair of the Prophet is an extremely important event, happening for the first time, and we hope that it will serve to change ourselves and our surroundings, bringing Divine blessing.

The relic can be seen daily during the opening hours of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

The hair of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is displayed behind armored glass in a special display case in the Museum of Islam.
