The 4th session of the general assembly of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) began in Istanbul on August 20. The International Union of Muslim Scholars is an Islamic organization established in 2004. It unites Muslim scholars specializing in Shari'a sciences and the culture of Islam, interested in its revival, implementation and popularization.

The Union aims its efforts at developing cooperation with government structures. The events were attended by the first chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of European Russia Damir hazrat Muhetdinov, member of Russia Muftis Council, mufti of Zabaykalsky Krai Rishat hazrat Saydashev, mufti of Tatarstan Kamil hazrat Samigullin, mufti of Chechnya Salah Mezhiev, mufti of Stavropol Krai Muhammad Rahimov, deputy mufti of Dagestan Muhammad-Rasul Saaduev, IUMS scholars coordinator in Russia and the CIS countries Luay Yusuf, CEO of International Islamic Mission Shafik Pshihachev, senior research associate of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ruslan Kurbanov and others.

The assembly was led by the general secretary sheikh Ali al-Karadagi. It was also attended by famous Islamic scholar, leader of an-Nahda movement Rashid al-Gannushi.
