An elimination round for the XIV Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition among Russian huffaz took place today at Ramadan Tent, an event traditionally held near Moscow Memorial Mosque in the last days of the holy month of Ramadan.

A total of nine Qur’an reciters from different regions of Russia took part in the elimination round. Chairman of Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Penza Oblast Islam hazrat Dashkin, director of Qur’an memorization center of Russian Islamic University Ibrahim Sabirov and lecturer of Kura Muhammad Islamic Institute in Makhachkala Omaraskhab Dalgatov were judging the contestants.

President of the jury Islam hazrat Dashkin greeted all the participants of the event and wished luck to all the contenders.

After the contest ended, the word was taken by Rushan hazrat Abbyasov, deputy head of Russia Muftis Council and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition. He greeted all the guests of Ramadan Tent on behalf of RMC Chairman, leader of Russia’s Muslims mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and said that by it is by the prism of faith and prayer and by such events as Ramadan Tent that Muslims can truly perceive the beauty of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Rushan hazrat thanked all the participants of this round of the contest and wished all the participants luck both in the forthcoming finals and in their lives as a whole.

He also noted that this contest doesn’t have losers since every contender has already won in the eyes of Almighty God.

Qusay al-Farhani, charge d'affaires ad interim of the embassy of Kuwait, thanked the organizers for the invitation for this Qur'an festival, greeted everyone present and congratulated them with the coming Eid.

“We are completely satisfied with relations between our countries, between our organizations and Russia Muftis Council. I would particularly mention relations in humanitarian and religious spheres,” said Qusay al-Farhani.

Member of the honorable jury Ibrahim Sabirov thanked organizers of the Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition and the Ramadan Tent for this great occasion and for their efforts in promoting Islam in Russia. He also handed out 12 copies of Qur'an translated into Tatar language.

A few minutes before iftar, the jury announced the Russian Qur'an reciter who will represent his country in the finals of XIV Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition – Abdulgadzhi Ilyasov from Republic of Dagestan. Honorable second place was taken by Magomed Aligadzhiev, while the third one was occupied by Osman Zulpuhargadzhiev.

All participants of the contests were presented with diplomas of participation and gifts.

XIV Moscow International Qur’an Reciting Competition will take place in Concert Hall “Rossiya” on September 15. It is organized under the patronage of Chairman of Russia Muftis Council mufti sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and under the auspices of Moscow City Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The contest will bring together well-known huffaz from over 30 countries. It will be held in nomination “Hifz. Recitation of Qur’an by Heart”.
