Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Moscow Oblast, member of the Civic Chamber of Moscow Oblast Rushan hazrat Abbyasov came to the Moscow satellite city of Mozhaysk to meet with local Muslims and lead Friday prayer. Although there is no registered Muslim community neither in the city nor in the rayon yet, a group of believers under imam Elmir Muminov came up with the initiative of creating such a community, formalizing all the required documents.

Despite Elmir Muminov informing the Administration of Mozhaysk city, Mozhaysk rayon and police of the religious meeting and collective prayer to be held on his land with the participation of the Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Moscow Oblast beforehand, police went on to detain and prevent Muslims from gathering at the designated place.

All Muslims who attended the gathering had correct identification documents of either Russian citizens or legal migrants, but they were nevertheless detained without having given any reason, escorted to the local Department of Internal Affairs and held there until SAMMO chairman and member of the Civic Chamber of Moscow Oblast Rushan hazrat Abbyasov left the event.

In relation to this outrageous incident, when members of religious community were prevented from meeting spiritual leader of their region and praying and detained by the police, Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Moscow Oblast will bring this case before prosecutor's office to verify the legality of the actions of the police. Rushan hazrat Abbyasov also announced that the Spiritual Administration of Muslims is considering an appeal to the Civic Chamber of Moscow Oblast as well.
