In regards to the incident in Moscow on Bolshaya Tatarskaya Street where several hundred people gathered around a police bus demanding to release a person detained a few minutes before, during Friday prayer, Russia Muftis Council is calling for Muslims to keep calm and not fall for any provocations.

According to the mass media, the participants of the event will be subject to administrative arrest. Criminal cases were opened against two people; they are charged with violence against lawmen. They are currently held in custody.

Russia Muftis Council expresses its hope that this incident will be thoroughly and impartially investigated and will not be repeated.

We remind our brothers and sisters to abide by passport regulations in the capital metropolis and observe other laws and public order.

We also ask the high-ranking law enforcement officials to find a way of solving this situation in such a way that would help preserve stability in our multiethnic and multifaith society.
